Welcome to the First Coast Freethought Society. Now in our tenth year!
We are a group of freethinkers dedicated to promoting science and reason over dogma, faith, and belief in the supernatural. Our purpose is to serve the needs of the nonreligious population of Northeast Florida, promoting secular humanism, a non-theistic outlook and approach to everyday life. We provide a place where agnostics, atheists, freethinkers, and secular humanists can gather to hear speakers, discuss philosophy, science, and other topics of interest. We offer support to those who have rejected or are questioning their religious beliefs. At our meetings, you will find a forum for individuals interested in learning more about humanism and freethought. Through lectures and informal discussions, we explore topics of interest and enjoy fellowship with like-minded people. Meetings are free and open to the public. We hope to see you there! The First Coast Freethought Society is a non-profit, tax-exempt, educational organization under IRS Chapter 501(c)(3).

OVER 400 Inquisitive People Attend On November 13, 2006, this program was presented by the Department of Biology at the University of North Florida and the First Coast Freethought Society. The audience was a good mix of Creationists, Intelligent Designers, believers, nonbelievers, students, adults, people who know evolution happens, and others who don't believe in evolution. Dr. Anthony Rossi, Biologist; Dr. Mathew Gilg, Biologist; Dr. Jay Huebner, Physicist and Astronomer; and Dr. Gordon Rakita, Anthropologist, each had 20 minutes to deliver a segment of evolutionary theory. They provided lots of information in a relatively short amount of time. The program was skillfully moderated by Ken Hurley, president of the ACLU of Greater Jacksonville. It was truly an interactive and lively question and answer segment. The questions from the audience were articulate, concise, and informed. People loved the discussion so much that the audience voted unanimously to extend the program for another half hour. Unsolicited comments from the audience . . . "I am a creationist, young earth variety, and I want to thank you for putting on such a wonderful program and I want to thank the moderator for making me feel welcomed . . ." -Michael D. "GREAT PROGRAM!" -Anesta L. "Three-and-a-half hours of five intelligent, rational, interesting speakers! What a great event." - Elaine G. "This was the best discussion on the subject I've seen in years!" - Sue B. # # #
